After You
by Gerard Lebel

While searching for my place in this world…
a constant search to be sure…
I found you.

a blessing…
a miracle…
a joy beyond belief.

I walked a mile in your shoes
as only lovers honestly can.
There were happy times…
uncomfortable times…
revealing times…

yet from that monumental moment
when our worlds joined as one…
all my lonely, empty yesterdays
 became meaningless.

You were always meant to be
the blossom on the tree…
 walking in your shoes
has set me free.

After you…
 life began anew.

Hooray!! You could 'feel the beating of my heart' in my poem, MA... what a perfectly lovely things to say. I am just so happy that some of my writing has been able to touch another's heart and make them feel something. It's the greatest compliment I could ever receive.

Thanks again from the heart.....Jerry (^_^)

Like this one Jerry. Again crisp and no padding you cut through with the emotions you want to display in a confident and assured manner.

Hi Anna! Glad my closing line spoke to your heart as my heart spoke to me as I was writing. Thanks so much for your faithful reads and lovely comments.....Jerry

^_^
I really like this poem Jerry.
you know, it is very different from the regular love poems. This has not only a very sweet and tender quality but also a very real sence to it.
you know what I mean? it just really captures this down to earth feeling of falling in love. hahaha I don't know how else to say it? though I really, really like this poem.

Thanks for the lovely comment, Katie. I'm happy that you found this one kinda' special. Sometimes, I don't know where the words come from... there just there on the tips of my fingers as my hands glide over the keyboard.

Thanks Juliet... glad you liked the poem.
Peace and love.....Jerry

I hope I feel that way one day. You have a soft touch with your words capturing the difficulties of finding love and the power of renewal the emotion brings.

You always sound so intelligent about matters of the heart. Makes a great read.

Thanks so much for such a lovely comment! It certainly means a lot to me. True love has a way of finding you when you aren't looking for it. Trust in the hope that tomorrow offers.

I'm happy it made a great read for you.....Jerry (^_^)

Peace and happiness.....Jerry

I really like the line "I walked a mile in your shoes/ as only lovers honestly can." Boy, isn't that the truth! There's nothing like a relationship to really open your eyes to the importance of being considerate of another person. After living together for 2 years, I think the most important lesson I've learned from my boyfriend is selflessness. What a lovely poem, Jerry!

Thanks so much for the read and great comment, Peach. I need to catch up on my reading and commenting this weekend hopefully.....Jerry

You know, I've never been in love, and people tell me that when they found theirs, it was better than they had imagined it. But it's poems like these that convince me that at some point in my short life, I've felt true love, even if just for a minute. I believe the only kind of love is when you and your partner know eachother so well it hurts when they're away or they're hurting. You not only have to be able to empathize with them, you have to sympathize, you have to hurt when THEY hurt. Pureness and truth emanates from this piece and I felt it collide with my heart-- it just sticks. There aren't any words to describe this. I enjoyed it very much :)

Oh, Jerry this is wonderful! Poetry is all about feeling and OMGosh this one left me feeling so much. Its got that certain something that takes your breath away, yet its down to earth. I think that's the way most of us love. Great job!

SO glad you enjoyed the read. SO much has been written about love... Love.... LOVE!!!! It's amazing that we are still able to find new things to say!! Or perhaps we say the same old things but as poets, we re-arrange the words!!! Thanks for another read, Brenda!

Happy days.....Jerry
