It comes out of the mountains and rolls on through the hills
Crossed by covered bridges passing by abandoned mills
It’s a trip right through our history; it’s a journey through our past,
and you know I’m driving slowly cause I want this trip to last
The river road goes on for ever
Driving on a Sunday, that never ends
The river road comes down from heaven
God only knows, where it’s gonna end
It passes through the farmlands and then through the small towns
Connecting them together as it gently winds around
There’s nothing more relaxing than a stop along the way
Look out on the river let it wash my cares away
The river road goes on for ever
Driving on a Sunday, that never ends
The river road comes down from heaven
God only knows, where it’s gonna end
With my baby right beside me, my heart could just explode
Driving this here beat-up car down on this river road
