On the edge of my mind

Poetry By: GiggleMonster2

My vision of you slowly falters as I realise my reality. Until I have the strength to let go, I will always be hanging. If I shall hang in hopes that you'll save me, I'll fall and die. But if I let go of you and that ledge, I'll fall and I'll live.

Slow and steady, I step forward

my heart jumps as I gaze around

and I stand there paralyzed

until I realize I'm on solid ground

A smile arises onto my face

as I hear you call my name

this feels so silly to me

like it's just a game

I look up ahead

and I search for you

my mind so scattered

wondering if you feel as I do

I finally see you

smiling down at me

and I feel an electric surge

a surge of relief

but my vision starts to blur

my image of you not here

and I'm left here alone

just me with my tears

"Where did you go?"

I quickly say

hearing my own echo

knowing that you ran away

He couldn't hear me anymore

his ears deaf to my cry

yet I cry anyway

Asking, "Was it all a lie?"

I take a step back

feeling the earth rumble beneath my feet

pieces of the ground breaking off

and the earth caves in deep

Losing all of my balance

I fall over the edge

I'm desperately hanging on

from that dusty ledge

I think back to you

wondering where you are

I thought you'd be here

I thought you were a star

Weeks go by and I'm still hanging

waiting with hopes that you'll be back

still you don't come and I slowly slip

hoping for the strength I seem to lack

Still, you're gone and I'm tired of waiting

for something that's not real

I can't believe what's happening

it all just feels surreal

One finger falls

then two and three

I can't help thinking,

"I'll finally be free."

I let go of that edge

closing my eyes and breathing

just falling from that place;

my heart is quickly beating

I open up my eyes

to see that I'm not dead

feeling happy to be gone

away from that old ledge
