Page 1, A poem of song

Anchors Inn

Now listen round my merry men
I’ll tell a tale so true
A song of men, a song of love, a song of life sae true
Of Anchor’s Inn, of Anchor’s Inn
Ah, that’s the place to be
We’ll drink a toast to all the men
At Anchor’s Inn tonight

Now Cullan was a mighty lad
A man with fists like steel
He won aye many a fight with them
At Anchor’s Inn he did
At Anchor’s Inn, at Anchors Inn
Well drink a round to them
He won aye, many a fight with them
At Anchor’s Inn he did

Now Rogan was a ladies man
A mighty tool had he
The maidens came from all around
To share a bed wi him
At Anchor’s Inn, at Anchors Inn
Well drink a round to them
They came to share a bed wi him
At Anchor’s Inn they came

Now Mary was a braw wee lass
Her breasts they drew some stares
The men did come from far and near
To see her dance and whirl
At Anchor’s Inn, at Anchor’s Inn
She’d dance for all to see
So, come and drink a round wi us
At Anchor’s Inn tonight

Berthel was a married lass
She sneaked away one night
She spent the night in many an arm
At Anchor’s Inn that night
At Anchor’s Inn, at Anchor’s Inn
She loved aye, many a lad
So, come and wile the hours away
At Anchor’s Inn tonight

Now Garland was a sly old fox
He stole aye, many a purse
But fate caught up one night in May
When Cullan’s purse he tried
‘Twas in old Anchor’s Inn he tried
And fate caught up with him
He stole a purse aye, tried and failed
At Anchor’s Inn one night

So, come my merry drinking lads
Come sing of love and life
We’ll drink a toast to one and all
At Anchor’s Inn tonight
At Anchor’s Inn, at Anchor’s Inn
We’ll drink a round to them
To all the lads, who come to drink
At Anchor’s Inn at night
