New Year Thoughts
Now begins the light of a New Year
The first touch of the artist's brush
A new page in life's book awaits
The choice is thine to fill
We light the candle make our pledge
A better year we'll live
Habits change, we all do wish
A new person we shall be
Ring out the old ring in the new
Let joyous voices sing
Times' clock now ticks - forever gone
What's past will ne'er return
We oft look back with deep regret
We wish we could undo
Yet Father Time has claimed the past
These roads we'll ne'er tread
A new door opens now we'll see
What waits beyond who knows
We can but enter day by day
And walk along life's path
The old has gone forever passed
The new we now shall choose
What shall we do, what shall we change
What things to leave undone
What shall you write upon that page?
What picture shall you paint?
A song of joy - a mournful dirge
The answer you must find
Will you stand out and embrace life?
Or seek a shaded spot?
Will vivid colours catch thy brush?
Or seek you darker hues?
As music stirs the heart and soul
As art brings peace to mind
As words by pen do feed the heart
And send our thoughts on high
Yet painting can confuse the mind
And stir the dark recess
Music too can rouse within
The baser thoughts and deeds
A pen can write and create doubt
Where faith did stand before
So like the dark clouds blot out light
And leave you in the cold
Each day we live a story tells
Each year a painting done
A symphony of life we write
To play for all to hear
So now each one must choose his way
Each year must play its course
As each day comes you once more choose
The dark or lighter tones
The New Year starts, the page we write
Each day you fill out more
The little words and thoughtful deeds
Are written there within
Stand up and make your mark in life
Be not afraid what waits
Be honest to yourself and true
A New Year has begun
