The Beatnik
Cool o' Dadi 'o, jazz it up, feel the beat, now let it swing
Ginsberg, Kerouac, Burroughs too, the musketeers inspire
Corso comes to join the club - d'Artagnan - let it rip
Art and music fuse in one, writers now do set the tone
Coffee house, basement club, sex and freedom worlds explode
Cassady, Huncke, Orlovsky join, Holmes and Clellon feel it jive
'Howl' oh man, yeh groove on by, 'On The Road' some 'Naked Lunch'
Feel them vibes man, hang all lose, the world is changing, hit the road
Generation on the go, Carr and Chase they join the froe
Poets, writers, artists too, set the scene man all things go
Writers listen, hear the beat; time to change things, time to move
Moriarty now a legend is, many follow, icon born
Music leads it motivates, just let it flow man let it flow
Youth as ever seeking change, freedom always from the rules
Japhy Ryder - 'roman a clef', Snyder writes - a Thoreau born
The system chokes it kills true art, seeking but conformity
Pioneers opening roads, others treading down
Marijuana - Benzedrine, mind illuminate
Feel the beat man, grove with it, words of poets open wide
Parker, Gillespie, play it mean, wow the music feel it throb
Worlds discovered, minds expand, life to live for, words expound
To the dust now laid to rest, yet their words live on
