The Candle
A candle shinning in the dark,
For many a mile twas seen,
Its flickering flame a beacon bright,
Its scent just heavenly!
I saw this candle in my dream,
The darkness - evil's cloak.
From all around it hands reached forth,
All crowding round the light!
Some did seek its gentle warmth,
Others its flickering light,
Some the perfume, did attract,
Yet some would snuff it out.
As moths the flame did hypnotise,
As nearer they did come.
From Evil's shroud of Death they came,
They suddenly appeared.
Shinning faces seeking hope,
Enthralled as they gazed on,
While others filled with malice strong,
They sought to extinguish it.
The light exposed their evil deeds,
They could not hide from it.
Thus they sought to destroy it,
To quench the shinning light!
Yet there amongst the growing throng,
Were some who sought control!
Seeing all that they could gain,
If they controlled the flame!

The flame did leap, it danced, it licked,
A life its own it had.
No one could harness nor snuff out,
The candle's flame of fire!
Those who sought but to destroy,
were then in turn destroyed.
Those who sought to box it in,
Imprisoned now were found.
Those, whose gentle loving hands,
sought but to guide the flame.
The flame lashed out, it burnt the hands,
That tried to channel it.
Yet many sat around the flame,
Their eyes were filled with love.
A hope was burning deep inside,
They saw an answer there.
Burn free, they cried, burn free my love,
Let nothing quench thy flame.
For darkness fled before its light,
Evil shrivelled up.
Soon, each one who sat cross-legged
Now burned, a candle bright!
Darkness fled as light expands,
The flame of freedom called.
Burn free it called unto the world,
Burn free its flame did sing!
The hearts of those who saw its truth,
now burned with inner fire.
The world shall burn a candle bright,
Within the darkness void!
A hope to all that seek its truth,
Who feel its warmth engulf.
Let nothing quench thy flame of love,
Let no hand guide its way.
For only if it freely burns,
Can love's light conquer all!
