The Irony of Life
Thrust into the morning light
Spiral stairways climb
Through the window of my soul
I view the streets below
Tear away life's shimmering veils
See what's underneath
Crawling maggots swarming round
Hiding from the truth
Groans escape from deep inside
Fearing what will be
Mice on incessant treadmills march
Lost within a dream
Endless books like sands fine grains
Merchants selling words
Women sell themselves to live
Men they sell their soul
Truth is hidden from the mass
We trudge on in life's sewer
Politicians blowing their balloons
The media lies once more
Ah, the bitter irony
We're programmed every day
Like the games we always play
The truth we cannot see
Deep the chasm of the dead
Lost in city streets
Struggling ever to be free
Yet but deeper go
Chains they forge within their life
Heavy loads they be
Pulling ever lower down
To the miry deep
