The Last Battle
The army stopped upon the ridge
As evening fell and quiet came
The tents, like flowers decked the glade
The flags unfurled and banners waved
And so the men of war did camp
Beneath the moon and starry sky
Through starry skies, till break of dawn
They slept like angels from on high
A trumpet blast, a horse’s cry
‘Twas time to move unto the fray
Aristasance his sword held high
As cheers of joy did fill the rank
For Light and truth he did enshrine
Within his face like angels fair
Within his sword from heavens mine
A light did glow that blinded man
They formed their ranks beneath the braes
And soon the hills were dark as night
For Hellas hordes did blot out all
The prince of Hellas, dark and proud
Did laugh and scorn the men below
For victory seemed to him assured
For he was greater far than they
Then out of heaven came a light
So bright, it blotted out the sky
Within its light, a horse did ride
Pure white, with wings as large as man
It flew to where he stood below
Then mounted he and took to flight
The light of God upon his helm
Did shine like sunlight dazzling all
Then from the east the dragons came
Like darkened clouds, they filled the sky
They bellowed fire and beat the air
And caused the hearts of men to fear
The Dragon Master rode his beast
His face was masked with cruel light
He laughed with glee as on he rode
The thunder clapped and lightning flashed
As Dark and Light, did battle wage
But brave Aristasance stood firm
As Hellas came to war with Light
All nature clashed in thunderous roars
Aristasance his armor bright
Did war with dragons in lofty heights’
‘Twas fierce this conflict in the skies
Yet, naught could stand against the Light
Soon all were vanquished or had fled
Before the sword of of loves pure Light
The Victory now, was sure as day
When out of darkness Daemon came
His armor black, his mount of fire
His features cruel, and filled with hate
The prince of Hellas strong and young
Rode forth to battle armed with hate
He led his men now to the fray
Their swords did clash and weapons flash
And so the Dark ones, spilled the blood
Of men of Light, who bravely died
Their swords did drip in dark red blood
But Light could not be thus put out
Aristasance both bold and brave
Did join the fray from up above
They fought until the break of day
When Hellas prince did cry with pain
He fell and sunk into the sand
His blood did flow like Rulen’s stream
The men of Dark then turned and fled
As Light shone down from heaven’s height
And so the victory now was won
The day that heaven fought for man
Alas the tale, it ends not thus
For evil seethed yet unbenost
That night, as our fair lord did sleep
His closest friend came to his tent
He crept so silent like a snake
And treachery now, he did unfold
That night so dark, he slew his friend
And stole the sword, as he did run
What evil fate this traitor met
Is not writ down by mortal pen
And now we sing of deeds of Light
Yet, let’s not forget this evil deed
Let song and poem ‘er record this deed
The death of Light’s most honored knight
As children list to tales of yore
As old men recall ancient rhymes
From annuls of both men and gods
This story ne’er shall pass away.
