In the end I knew I it was gone.
The fingers that played the song ended flat.
The soundless note hanging in the air above my eyes.
With fingers extended I reached out and grasped that note holding it tight in my hand.
“Will I ever have you again?” I whispered to the note.
It vibrated and zinged in my palm, hopeful but lifeless.
I squeezed it tightening my fist around the little note,
Wishing it would give me an answer more promising.
Like a double-bladed sword it gave me the answer that penetrated my heart.
Shattering it the way it did when her soul took one last breath.
Opened mouthed in a silent scream the note vanished to never be heard again.
