The Eternal Fire

by Henry Duthler

As the hours go by, and the days go past

The flames are dying and they're fading fast

And it hurts to see you drifting away.

Don't let it go, darling hold on tight

If we can fan the flames they can burn all night

And they'll be glowing through to the morning light.

The eternal fire's just a spark away

The time has come to rekindle the flames

Put the past behind us and see the brand new day

The eternal fire's just a spark away.

Love is the spark that ignites the flame

And it can keep us warm through the winds of change

And it hurts to think it's fading away.

I can't let it go, darling not tonight.

If we can shelter the flames on this stormy night

They can still be ours in the morning light.
