Outside The Children Play

by Henry Duthler

Scraps of paper lie nearby

Outside the children play

Each sheet is barely touched by ink

Then cast away

Outside the children play

Searching for words, only finding none

Still each page says enough

Outside the children play

Tear stains on the paper

Tear stained cheeks

Outside the children play

The words never come

The words never come

Outside the children play

There's a sound of broken glass

A slight scream then silence

The children have stopped playing
