The Art of Evasion

Poetry By: Henry Duthler

I recently had a conversation with a young man, who has lost his way. He's been mislead, misinformed... But mostly, just plain missed.

The Art of Evasion

By Henry Duthler

I can see the tears,

even if you won't let them fall

I see you check the time

on your watch, your phone and on the wall

it's in your posture

how you attempt to carry this conversation

your answers short, and pointed

oh, how you've mastered the art of evasion

it's the unsettled shifting

the restlessness of your feet below

how your rub your hands together

as you convince yourself again, the pain doesn't show

you hesitate and then calculate

and welcome any complication

duck, dodge, avoid and redirect

Oh, my son, how you've mastered the art of evasion

Thank you for taking the time to read this piece, if you enjoyed it, please comment and let me know! Also take the time to read, and comment on my other works... again, thank you!
