I have come...

I have come,
To mend the collapsing buildings,
Glue back together the shattered windows,
Piece by piece
To refurbish the foundation,
Upholster the empty chairs,
To fill each crack in the sidewalk,
So once more it's safe to walk on
Come to strip the road of pot holes,
And fix the bird houses on the doorstep,
So that once more they can sing,
Bring life to this solemn city
Restore the sagging flowers,
Light the city with extravagant colours,
And recondition the lifeless shutters,
Hanging by their rusty hinges
To rewire the phone lines,
And shuck the peeling paint,
Collect the loose bricks,
Build a wall with those
Demolished piles of rock,
Recycled; put to good use
For I have come to mend the city,
Repair it's crumbling buildings
But now I have come to find,
After traveling from a far,
Without stopping for a moment,
It's not the city that needs be remodeled
But the people who dwell in it,
The broken souls,
With broken hearts,
Who refuse to say they're nothing but Ok
