The Angel

Beautiful white wings flap before me,
An angel? Is this what I see?

A golden ring, floating above,
I'm suddenly filled with powerful love

A smiling face, gleaming, and heavenly,
She seems ever so filled with ecstasy

Her glowing heart fills mine too,
Being happy, is what everyone should do

But then I discover, a secret she's keeping,
Inside she is actually grieving

For being an angel, is not all very good,
To pass away is what one should

And when one does, you miss your life,
Imagine your heart, cut open with a knife

Then all you were and what you would have been,
Is left, never again to be seen

Condemned to an after,
Of sure kindness and laughter

But none of this is really real,
And the break in your heart will never heal

It's like a shimmering hope, that's cast away,
Never again, to see the light of day
