The Empty Road

He stands alone,
On an empty road,
No cars zooming by,
No cars that slowed

He walks forward,
Not knowing what to do,
When a car will come,
He has no clue

His thumb is held high,
Yet his head in not,
Staring at the ground,
His mind in a knot

He glances back,
To his bike with a flat,
Nothing he can do,
To fix even that

He sees a car,
And his hopes do arise,
It soon disappears,
A trick of his eyes?

He keeps walking,
All hope shattered,
Like beads off a necklace,
Having been scattered

He thinks to himself,
But no ideas come to mind,
Nothing in his head,
He's able to find

The sun goes down,
Day turning to night,
Now everything is dark,
Not an ounce of light

He stops and sits,
Not wanting to fall,
On the ground,
He would sprawl

So now he decides,
To close his eyes,
To go to sleep,
Is what he tries

It does not work,
He is still awake,
His back hurts,
And his neck does ache

So he gets up,
And starts to walk,
To himself,
He does talk

"Why does this,
Have to happen to me?"
And to cool down,
He counts to three

As he does,
He hears a sound,
A horn in the distance,
And he turns around

He sees a car,
It's head light glaring,
The noise of a horn,
As it is blaring

He raises his hand,
As well as his head,
And towards him,
The car sped

Then the car slows,
And comes to a stop,
The front door opens,
And in does he hop
