Dutchy's thoughts on Politics and Sport

Poetry By: hollydar

My first and only poem (until recently) written in 1988 when a Test Match between India and England was cancelled by India because the England Captain had once played in South Africa. Dutchy our dog at the time loved to watch TV so we made him an "England" hat which he was very happy to wear and sit and watch. When the match was cancelled I felt sure these were Dutchy's thoughts!!!

I'm an English Springer Spaniel,

Dutchy is my name,

And although I quite like football,

Cricket is My game.

I sit for hours and hours

In front of the TV

When England play I jump and bark

I think they're great you see!

I really was excited

about the Indian game -

I got my hat from storage

And prayed it wouldn't rain.

But now I'm feeling dismal

-The news is really bad -

I hear the match is cancelled

It really makes me sad.

Men are funny creatures

Not like dogs at all

We don't care where you were born

When someone throws a ball.

My sister is a German, a Doberman in fact.

My friend's an Irish Wolfhound , the leader of the pack.

His sister is a Poodle she's from Paris, France

And when Jack the mongrel catches the ball he'd send you in a trance.

So to all the Politicians

I simply want to say,

Don't mix politics with sport

And let the cricketers's play
