The Way We Were...

Poetry By: HollyJaye
Poetry

This piece of poetry was yet another challenge entry (lol I know I've been addicted of late) for Lucky Fate's The Way We Were Monthly Challenge. I took the title and wrote about how we seem to grow up so quickly and life snatches away those golden childhood moments.

The way we were, the way we are,

Look at how we've come so far.

A little change just there and here,

There's nothing really left to fear.

No fairytales or Santa Clause,

Barely the time to stop and pause.

The childish giggles that we'd share,

The urge to play some truth or dare.

They've all gone, they're left behind,

For another youth to find.

It's always rush every day,

No time to stop and find your way.

No loosing yourself in a world of your own,

Just grown up things to do and handle alone.

If wishes were pennies I'd be a millionaire,

I've lost count of the ones I've thrown into the air.

Make life easier and full of good cheer,

Not full of such worries like a life long career.

It's the way that we were that I'm longing for,

As each night draws in and I'm closing the door.
