I won’t say where or on which lawn
I daren’t say when or who
To secrecy I’ve been sworn
Yet truth is what I do
My daughter just turned nine
When witnessed what should not;
A devastating sign
Someone had lost the plot
I was sprawled on a lawn
Enjoying child at play
In my arms a newborn
A loved filled summer’s day
She approached in panic
Insisted I should be
Equally as manic
Neglect the said baby
In her mind couldn’t wait
Deed she said was urgent
I did not hesitate
As I was convergent
Blinded by the sun rays
And responsibility
I used a certain phrase
Opposed her reality
She was overly stressed
To understate the scene
And way it was expressed
Not exactly routine
She produced kitchen blade
Slashed wrists with tears and scorn
And some scars never fade
Like blood spills on a lawn
Though my child, adult today
Her memories stay unclean
Colour red gets in the way
Of where she should see green
