Candy Poems

Poetry By: indigo11roses

A series of poems about different kinds of candy. More are coming. Perfect for the chocolate-lovers. (me)

Chocolate Heaven
It sat there, staring at me like a begging puppy-dog,
Hoping for a table scrap, a bit of bacon,
Taking the place of the canine I never had.
I just couldn't resist.
I took a tiny nibble, the luscious cocoa melting,
A milky pool of heaven on my tongue.
The auburn chunks then reformed slightly,
Sliding down my throat with ease.
Opening the crinkly pouch of beautiful candy
Is like sending splattered red, yellow, orange, and green
Exploring across a patiently waiting white canvas
Like medieval scouts.
The grape ones are the best, worth by far the most,
Traded only to those with very valuable sweets,
While the lemon ones can be swapped
For lower quality, less desired, perhaps "healthy" items.
Reese's Peanut Butter Cups
Peanut butter and chocolate: possibly the best combo ever.
The coarse, thick butter is swallowed
By a layer of creamy, delectable chocolate
Crunching on the sides, melting on the top.
In the checkout aisle at the store, the candy bars intended to tempt you
Seemed never to measure up to the excellence of Reese's cups,
Who usually hid in the lower left corner of the shelves,
Waiting their turn in an orange and yellow outfit.
Candy Corn
Sinking your teeth into a delicious treat,
With endless possibilities of how to eat them.
Simply pop them in, bite off each color,
Or shave off tiny curly-cues slivers with your teeth.
Sweet, colorful sweets with a kick of sugar in each bite.
Munching on these addictive candies is like reading,
First you say, "Just one chapter," then after that,
"Just one more," and then, "Really, just one more."

A real Halloween treat: candy corn
