Where fairy lights

Within me

My friends

Acquaintances

Gathered

Over a lifetime

Have started to

Burn out and die

Some have been dim

For a while

They may remain so

Others

Burning

Bright

Shining

Examples

To the world

Without warning

Flickered

Were gone

Now when people

Exit my life

For a day

Or so I wonder

Whether I will see them

Again or

Conversely

They

Will see me

Again

Lights within me

I have never met

Conversed with

Got close to

Over the internet

Shocked was I

To find the pain

Of losing

One of them

Was no less

Than the pain

Of losing one

I had known Personally

So when people tell me

They are going

Away for a while

I shudder

Dark mists

Surround

The little bulb

In my heart

And I wait.
