Passive Patriotism

Poetry By: IvyWinter

Written for creative writing class. Had to write a poem on America that played around with line placement.

The red white and blue bloodshed of capitalism
Is our pledge of allegience
To crimes we do not understand.

And I do not care.

The freedoms that we have to buy,
The liberties we have to sell,
Are everything democracy is not.

And I do not care.

I do not care

To hear the television
Tell me how I am supposed to be.

I do not care

To hear the voices
Of demonstrators who arn't even sure
What they are fighting for.

I do not care

To see the ferocity
With which we attack each other's throats
For something that we said (or didn't)
That is, God forbid America, different.

I am tired of

I hate you
You hate me
They hate us.

When people complain about a country
They helped to destroy
I do not care.
