Treat A Lady With Respect

Poetry By: James Edgar Cooper
Poetry

I used to love how years ago, men would tip their hats to ladies in the street, how they'd hold a door open for a lady and let them through first, how they would walk a lady home on a dark and cold night to make sure that they got home safe and sound. Now however, I feel that the concept of chivalry is slowly fading from this world. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure that there are still people out there who are gentlemen and who do treat ladies with kindness and respect, but it just seems now that many don't have the same respect and decency that people had many years ago. There are some out there who see ladies merely as sexual objects and this of course is wrong. They are not objects and certainly shouldn't be treated as such. Instead, they should be treated as human beings, as people who have dreams and passions and desires and loves as well, just like everyone else. The world is constantly changing, but that doesn't mean that we have to be like everyone else... Show the world that you still hold values and beliefs that make you a gentleman, even if you stand alone.

A lady is a gentle soul upon the earth,

One that can brighten up a dull day,

With such softness can dissipate the clouds of sadness,

A lady helps to light the way.

Her soothing steps that calm the souls,

Of those with troublesome minds,

As she leaves behind a scent of beauty,

And speaks with words so kind.

Her gentle hand upon our heart,

Gives hope when all looks bleak,

She offers her warm and comforting love,

And gives us the shelter we seek.

'Tis the duty of a man,

To give care and respect to a lady,

To show good manners to all,

And to be helpful and polite daily.

Lay not a single hand of violence,

On any lady of the earth,

For they do not deserve such evil,

And are enriched with such intrinsic worth.

Show your lady your love,

Show her how much she means,

Be a force united in care and respect,

Help when she is in need.

Do not subject a lady to rude behavior,

Or words that can hurt the soul,

Be kind and gentle in everything you do,

And show that you have self-control.

'Tis not fair to see a lady as an object,

One that satisfies an urge,

For a lady is a human being as well,

And so, such attitudes need to be purged.

And so I say to you,

Let us not treat ladies with neglect,

Instead let us show courtesy and kindness,

Let us show ladies respect.
