An Ocean of Wind

Trees bend and flow
like seagrass;
long green tresses
waving
in an ocean of wind.

Swallows,
like small fishes,
dart
the gusting unseen tide,
and ride
the swirling eddies there,
feasting
on the insect plankton
of the air.

In this tidal rip
of leaves
the swinging branches
form
a wondrous canopy
of shade,
a dappled veranda
under which to walk,
hand in hand,
to swim this breeze along.

G'Day again,
Glad you enjoyed it.
I'm spoiled, I have to drive thru that same area 4 times today, and the wind is still blowing.

Great imagery as usual, James. It reads easily with a lovely flow, comparing swallows and fish, insect and plankton, etc. A delightful read.....Jerry

Hi Gerry,
I'm spoiled. I have to drive thru that same area 4 times today on errands. And the wind is still blowing.
Enjoy your nice chilly New England day, its 100 degrees here.
J.G.

Wonderful! I could actaully feel the true sting of your poem!

Sting? Must have been the salt spray and the hard wind.
Seriously though, I guess it was a two-sided poem. 1-just enjoying a visual environment, and 2 - that it should be enjoyed with someone.
Have a nice day.
J.G.

James a really great peice of poetry....Could see it in ones mind......Take care juliet

You got it. Glad you liked it.
While air is a mixture of gases, it has some of the properties of water also, it flows, has currents, etc.
J.G.

Hi Hap.
I'll give your site a look-see.
I was spoiled today, I got to drive through that avenue of trees four times; and the wind was still blowing.

Just read this again, it is very effective.

G'Day Eric.
Thanks for the feedback.
I always enjoy other people's poems more the second, or twentieth, time.

James,
I like the imaginative idea..lends a magical air.
Particularly like the phrase 'insect plankton'
Worth my rating.

Thank you.
There must be similar avenues of trees in Yorkshire? What images or assciations does your mind play with when you think of the Pennines or the Dales?
I was spoiled the other day. I had to drive 4 times through that avenue of trees, and the wind was still blowing.

Insect plankton conjures up all kinds of images. I had only been thinking of birds-small fish. But I guess whales eat plankton, don't they.
