Roses untended, hands crippled View table of contents...

WIDOWER

Rosebush untrimmed –
petals
dry as parchment,
fragile as moths’ wings.

Gnarled hands –
arthritic,
brittle as old breadsticks,
secateurs unusable.

Extended drought –
neglected,
untended,
withering.

A mournful look at life gone by- I know this would be me if my sweet husband left me first. I love "brittle as old breadsticks."

Hi Dody of the north woods,

I suspect you are more resiliant than that!

Brittle as breadsticks - osteoporiesis.

The poem is really about my mother-in-law; but being a male, I used a 'widower' to describe it.

It is really about my mother-in-law's experience; but being male, I used a male "voice" to convey it.

This poem is really about my mother-in-law; but because I'm a bloke, I wrote it with a male "voice".
Also, I wanted to experiment with minimalist writing. Do you think it worked?
