Flicker, Flicker, Starry Night

Poetry By: Jan Gabriel

This is a children's poem I wrote for the kids we visited in an orphanage two years ago. On the outside it is about the sun setting and the night taking over, but I also wrote it to be about hope--a hope that flickers even during the starless twilight.

Hail the sun, sparkling bright

Falling sun, the quiet might

Flicker, flicker, goes the light

Come the night, ever bright

Come the dark with stars alight

Flicker, flicker, starry night

Quiet dusk, hollow light

Bitter shadow, heaven's plight

Flicker flick, goodbye to light

Bid the twilight at its height

Darkness, darkness, dread and fright

Flicker, flicker, starry night

Come, oh come, the shroud of night

In your silence, my delight

Flicker, flicker, dazzling light

Fight the night, stars so bright

Fade away, shadow's blight

Flicker, flicker, starry night
