I've always been here

Finally freeing yourself
Slowly, gently, quietly
So as not to startle any witnesses

(I'm at your side)
Watching you break
Slipping, falling, sliding
Trying so hard to grasp at anything

(I listen)
As you reluctantly let the walls down
Opening, feeling, hurting
No longer a numb shell of nothingness

(I wait)
Holding your heart
Fixing, waiting, preparing
For the moment you don't need me

(I dread it)
Freedom beckons to my soul in vain
Lured, trapped, hidden
But baited and captivated by your grace

(I wish you could see)
The lingering spirit, gone through hell
For the chance to be anything

(Only for you)
