By His Grace

By © Jeff Shumate 2009

A life lived all for myself,

Nothing more than shame,

A life of one man spent,

Smearing Christ our Savior's name!

I always looked in doubt, upon that man made cross,

I always looked at you, as one who's always lost!

I didn't know what happened, but Jesus sent a friend…

As they all stood by, wondering would I die,

It was the cross upon her neck that really caught my eye!

As I looked intently on that cross, I began to say aloud…

"I been wrong about this Jesus," and I witnessed to the crowd!

"Jesus indeed, died for me, paying for my sin!"

"Yes I know He died alone hanging from that tree,

And He did it because the God He is, He died for you and me!"

I started getting weaker, and knew my time was short!

I only had one last breath, to end with this retort:

"He liiivessss!"

Falling in my Savior's arms,

Eternally secure,

His grace, His love, His might

Made this sinner pure!
