For My Son Alex

Poetry By: Joanneac
Poetry

I wrote this for my son Alex shortly after he died aged 15 months from a rare genetic condition. We were blessed to have had him in our lives for 15 months, but his memory remains with me every day.

Alex

I can't forget the way you smiled

It seemed to take the light from the stars

And shine it on your face

Your eyes laughed, your very soul shone through

No one else could smile like you.

They tried so hard to break the news to us softly

But how can a person be gentle

When they're telling someone

They're going to lose the most wonderful thing in their life.

I can't ignore the echo of your chatter I used to hear

I can't get used to losing you

And I can't see the sun for my tears ........
