Jake, the clown

Poetry By: John Stark

My first attempt at poetry.
I hope you find it entertaining or in the very least fascinating as my first poetic work. If it can be called that. :P

This is the story of Jake the clown

Who rolled up one morning into town.

A black suitcase he did carry

Which made everyone very wary.

"What brings you to our town?"

The public would ask him all around.

"Joy and happiness to you all!"

He would reply, standing tall.

For seven weeks, he did stay

Till early morning, Christmas day.

In his last show he had announced

That from his job he had renounced.

"It's true that i do brighten your day."

He did admit in disarray.

"But since it's a time of festivity

you guys deserve my honesty."

"I'm not a clown, not even an entertainer,

three weeks ago i was but a personal trainer.

My suitcase is empty and my pride is long gone

I needed some Money, i'll leave you by Dawn!"

But early that day in the month of December

Amidst the cold, you could see the ember.

For everyone was waiting outside for Jake

He pinched himself, he was awake.

This is the story of Jake the clown

Who forever lived in this town.

Poor and lonely he had once been,

But the game of life, he did win.
