This is true, I composed the song, tapped it, hummed and sang it, then suddenly it was lost.

The Lost Song

Sang only once

Of divine inspiration

From a heart sincere and angelic

The song ceased for a while

Then etherized

When I set to write it down.

It'd soared back to heaven

To Christ, saints and the angels

Leaving in my yearning mind a torment:

A blank tune forever

To be tapped, hummed and then voiced

In the rhythm of the swaying twigs;

In the fore and backrush of ocean tides

And in the silence of moments like this

When I pause and wonder

What a song it would have been!

How I miss the lovely melody -

The healing softness of its sighs

And its soothing gentleness that made me cry

I sing this for the lost song:

The sweetest thing that never got life

Though sometimes I secretly imagine

Perhaps the song's still within me.
