Poison ivy

Poetry By: Jossie

This is a poem based on something that happened to me once.
When I lost my best friend Emma to a heroin overdose and found her dead in her mothers flat.
I hope you enjoy it and learn from it.
I've been clean for many years now so don't worry about me.

There it rested!

A drop of blood that should have lain deep within a now uncaring vein
The carrier of which lay still and breathless in front of me
At only fifteen years old.
So still and calm a smile floats upon her now white face.
Just another girl who's lost her life,
to a drug, she should never have tasted.
I sit beside her breathless
Tears gushing from my eyes
Temptation sits there beckoning
Calling me to try
I know that it is poison
I know it wants my life
But I'm another, foolish, addict
And I need a hit tonight.
Don't procrastinate
Stop feigning hate.
Just take the spoon, don't make it wait.
Without that girl, you're on your own
There's nothing left
So why postpone?
The heroin goes on and on
Trying hard to win at last
But up I get
I'm out of there
I'll not be beat
I'll make a stand.
I don't need you
Don't need your hit
I'll get passed this
And carry on
To live my life
For everyone
Who fell for you until there death
And now breathless lay in their death bed.
For there it rested a drop of blood...
