A Miner’s Advice

“Don’t you do like I did.”
Daddy used to say.
“Don’t go underground,
Not enough pay.
I’ve spent out my life
One lump at a time
Cutting a living
For another man’s dime.
I want better for you,
The best for my son,
Stay away from that mine
Don’t do like I done.”

Comments:

This was a really touching poem, Kevin. I think all parents want more for their children than what they had themselves, and the love your father has for you comes through in his advice. Beautiful!
