I try not to look 

Regardless of intent

My eyes stray, hoping,

To catch a smile

 

Playing with her hair

Oblivious to me

In her own world

She catches me

 

I see her smile.

Noticing the light,

Playing across her face

Knowing she knows.

 

I smile back and turn

Telling myself to quit

But unable too

Unwilling to miss a smile

 

She catches me again

Looking, watching,

Questioning,

What lies behind her eyes?

 

I see her smile

Knowing something I don’t

Maybe just waiting, watching,

Smiling at catching me.
