Lament of a Sinner

If God should want, a flower,

I know he’d not choose me.

I’m too course and thorny,

A flower I cannot be.

If God should want, a cactus,

With me he would abort.

I’m not that hard and prickly,

As a cactus I come up short.

If God should want, a puppy,

Once again I wouldn’t fit.

I’m not that cute and cuddly,

As a puppy I wouldn’t sit.

If God should want, a sunbeam,

Left out, I’d be again.

I’m not that light and airy,

I can’t float upon the wind.

But if God should want, a sinner,

Right here I’d pass the test.

With me he’d pick a winner,

For that’s what I’ve done best.

Thank you. I wrote this some time ago, on a night when I was all alone with the memories of things long past. I guess I was just down on me. It happens...Thank you for reading.
