Because It Did

She wanted to grab his hand and say “Don’t go”,

She wanted to tell him to never leave her alone,

But that’s all gone now, it’s in the past,

There’s nothing she can do - It just I didn’t last,

After all the time and months and years,

All she can remember are the tears,

All she can recall is fear of him leaving,

But when he actually left she wasn’t the one grieving,

The time was wasted,

It’s time she faced it,

You can’t change what’s gone,

Even when it seemed to last so long,

He sang her a song with lyrics for her,

Charmed her and said things-but she wasn’t sure,

All she can say now is “stupid girl”,

She fell for his face and all the pearls,

Now she wishes there were a cure,

For when your heart falls into a lure,

Where you can’t just walk away,

Where you can’t imagine a day,

Without him in your life,

Then he cuts you like a knife,

And just leaves it for the dust,

She can’t pretend like it didn’t matter,

Because it did.
