The Kiss

Your skin is a clutter of golden flakes,

Shaved rubies

And grubby emeralds

From ore that you did not mine -

Your cheeks,

The plots where saffron grows

I suck the spice

Delicately -

From the soil

-

I tame the budding Snapdragon

That sleeps beyond your lips

And his cool flame

Chars my throat

-

You slot into my arms

As though you were cut for me

Every facet finding a space in my grip -

You shine as the moon reveals

But a glimpse of your treasures

To the lucky traveller

-

I wrap you safely

In layers of black chiffon

Hiding you from the thieves outside

-

You are the diamond

I am the ring
