Did it reside,
His wrapper marked
In big block letters
BAND-AID.
It had never been tortured
By any vacillation
And it had been eschewed
From it’s use
Only until that fateful day
When the child fell
And it was ripped from its wrapper
Marked with its name
BAND-AID
A neologism of words
Used to create an effective
Blocker of coagulated blood.
It was roughly stuck
With it’s adhesive back
To someone’s flesh
And so it fulfilled its purpose
Fighting impossible odds
Showers brought the most terrible storms
Spitting acid that ate at the glue.
Dust storms ravaged it
But yet it held on.
It held until it was,
Without thanks
Ripped off and thrown away
The child aloof of it
Though it served him so.
And so it found itself
Looking at the wrapper
Synectically thinking
Of why his purpose meant so little
And he thought of a snake to the breast
An end to its life
But there was no snake
And it had no breast.
And it began to wonder
But it was only a band-aid
And its worries faded away,
Because it never had any.
