Just another day at the beach
The sun beating down, rays warming my skin
A gentle breeze that flips my hair in all directions
And makes me feel like an underwater mermaid
Sand that spreads like butter beneath my feet
As I make that last fateful trek towards the lapping waters
My hands are clams around the thick green stems
Bundled every so preciously in thick satin strands
The scents hit my nose, perfuming the body and caressing the mind
Things I won’t forget for years to come
And then you catch my eye, standing by the lapping waters
Waiting ever so patiently for me, as you always do
Smiling back at me in a sweetly nervous way
Your hands clasped tightly like two starfish wrestling
My bare feet graze lightly over soft rose petals
Sewn carelessly across the sand like seeds in a field
And making a heavenly pink path for me to float on
As I draw nearer to you
My father leans down to kiss my cheek
Moves a hand up to catch a stray tear
Making a small shiny track down my face
As he whispers sweetly, ‘Her mother and I’
And then my hand is no longer my own
As it is placed in yours
You slip the ring on, and I too am yours
And in that moment we are one
