A Broken Man

Poetry By: Lady Wolf

The other night, a friend of mine found out his wife is cheating on him with his best friend, who is also his troop. I stayed up with him all night and watched his world fall apart. This is for him.

You met me at the club

And already I could tell,

Your world was falling apart;

You were going through Hell.

I gazed into your eyes,

And I'll try to describe if I can,

I looked into your soul

And found a broken man.

"How could she do this?" You asked me in tears,

"How could she cheat? We've been married ten years!"

I held you in my arms,

As you cried out all your pain,

I held you close, and heard you cry her name.

You reek of alcohol,

And I can understand why,

You've tried to numb the pain,

You truly want to die.

What can I say to you?

How can I make this all right?

I'll hold you and I'll pray,

Even if it has to be all night.

Why do people cheat?

Is it so hard to be true?

How could you do this,

When your husband is fighting for you!?

You took an oath,

When you put on your wedding band,

You swore under God,

And you've left a broken man.

My sergeant is proud,

He is strong and true,

He's gone under fire,

And has been destroyed by you.

He looks into my eyes

As I tell him I'm still his biggest fan,

I'll pick him back up

And pray for God to fix this broken man.
