Shadowed eyes strain

Toward the shadowed hills,

And in the orbs lies the pain

That the heart still feels.

The veiled and mourning gaze

Yet makes an airy trail

'Cross the clear and shining space,

Yet the thread is frail.

The darkened valleys hold

Secrets e'en from the Lord,

Yet unlike Eve, though just as bold,

The longing heart pulls not the body for'ard.

Yet my soul strives and leaps

For that muted place,

To know the secrets that there weep,

For this only do the tears dark this pallid face.
