wallowing in their own pleasures and wealth
but blind to anything beyond this life.
I’d rather be standing alone and know right where I belong
eyes straight forward,
heart stayed on the one I love.
To have my soul sing of heaven,
to ride the winds of time knowing what I live for,
to be a light that reaches the eyes of even the blind,
and a voice that calls through the darkest night.
I’d rather be a martyr having died for truth,
than old, empty and clinging to the world's lies.
So many take the easy path,
But it’s not mine to walk.
I’d rather shine of simple life and freedom,
than some worldly icon with naught but their own lies to live for.
Even if I could live among the kings of the earth, with all the world at my hands,
I’d rather be standing alone and know just where I belong.
