Before I close my eyes for the last time
And draw my final breath into my lungs,
I would like to see your face one last time
And hope it's not painful when it comes
Before I drift off to sleep one last time
I'll pour a drink and light a cigarette,
I'll look back fondly at all our memories
And pass away without regret
Before I close the curtains one last time
And eat the last forkful from my plate,
I would like to see your beautiful eyes
And I'll happily face my fate
Before I hear the birds sing for the last time
And children playing in the local park,
I'd like to hear you laughing just one more time
And hope the place I'm off to isn't dark
Before I feel my heartbeat for the last time
I'd like to feel your skin against my face,
I'd like to hear you tell me how you love me
And happily I'll reach that better place
Before my blood stops flowing for the last time
I'd like to feel your head upon my chest,
I'd like to say how good it felt to love you
And you can lay me in the ground to rest
