I've a lot to be thanking my Grandfather for
Who apart from no patience had no moral flaw,
Who spoke of no learning and growing up poor.
I've a lot to be thankful for hearing the things
He spoke of, solutions and not diamond rings;
And loved all his children like past Queens and Kings.
I've a lot to be thanking my Grandfather for
Who ate every meal and asked for no more,
Who spoke of the Oceans and on the 'Shop' floor,
I've a lot to be thankful for hearing such things
He spoke of adventure and not clipping wings;
And loved us like diamonds and tended our stings.
I've a lot to be thanking my Grandfather for,
Who saved all his pennies and gave out much more,
I've a lot to be thankful for hearing these things...
And remembering his life; and the joy that it brings.
