Day by day, there’s a smile upon my face,
Day by day, I start to fade away.
I smile to make sure everyone is fine,
I laugh and giggle and live the Perfect Lie.
Who can see behind the mask of calm?
Who can see the blackening of my heart?
Round up and take a guess about whether I’m okay,
Come on, place your bets not tomorrow, but today.
I guarantee you will be surprised by the lack of trueness,
I guarantee you’ll be surprised to find I am in ruins.
But, hey, who really cares?
They only pretend to be there.
They turn a blind eye and show so much pity,
Well, keep it to yourself, you hate me anyway.
Just admit it-you want me dead,
At least I have the guts to say what must be said.
Day by day, the smile is slipping from my face,
Day by day, I start to fade away.
I can’t smile to make you feel fine,
I can’t continue living this Perfect Lie.
