Something About The Heat

Poetry By: Mackenzie James

Just a free verse, stream of consciousness I wrote during one of the hottest days of the summer thus far.

There is something relaxing about the heat.

It cradles you in its arms, and loosens your joints,

It causes you to sit,

To wait,

to contemplate.

My skin is damp,

My legs are weak,

And I can hardly sleep.

All it does, is make you sit

And contemplate.

But what do you think of when the warmth presses you down?

Of the woman who you want to reach for in the foggy miasma of your own struggle?

Or the life you can't escape because the exhaustion of this moment is too dire?

There is something relaxing about the heat,

but also something deadly.

It causes you to sit,

To wait,

To contemplate.

But then again,

That's the problem isn't it?
