This is a poem I wrote several years ago that I've recently found. Enjoy.

CRIPPLED ROSE

The rose petal fell

Upon my foot

Crippled and torn

Ugly and worn;

Pulled from the root.

Another petal falls

To its own death;

I heard her crying

As she was dying

Catching her last breath.

Still petals fall

From the rose;

Like saddened tears

From all those years

That everybody knows.

My crippled rose

Won't you take it;

For the sun has kissed

And has not missed

The opportune to break it.

My crippled heart

Resembles this rose;

Has its faults

Knows it's been caught

Beneath the close.

Guard it, love it

Grasp it, take it

Hold it, want it

But please,

Don't break it.
