'Twas the day after Christmas and all through the house
The kitty was scurrying to chase after a field mouse
The stockings were thrown carelessly on the floor
The presents opened, the once-spirited tree against the door
When all of a sudden, the rednecks from across the street
Decided to have a bourbon-filled meet and greet
Loud and obnoxious, I knew they must have been drunk
At nine in the morning, in the rain, their truck had been sunk
My first stop was the coffee pot, with my new cool Tweety mug
The warmth, the aroma, the caramel taste, gave me a morning hug.
After a few sips, and my brain beginning to wake up
I tip-toed to my youngest daughter's room; she's cuddling with her pup.
After a quick morning kiss and a good morning cheer
I went to the other room to check on my other dear.
She was sacked smooth out, and I had to make a path
Just to get to her bed. Phew! She needs a bath!
My beautiful teenager, all snuggled in her bed
With her latest chapter book, halfway read
The usual good-morning ritual, a kiss and a morning greeting
She picked her head up and asked, "What are we eating?"
From the doorway, her sister suddenly appeared
Sheepishly, she came to us, tugging on her ear
I gave each of them a sip of my coffee, the aroma so sweet
I wrap them up in my arms, and my morning is complete.
