Have you ever stood gazing over the ocean at night thinking of the love you let slip through your fingers? As if we have a choice? View table of contents...

As the light dims across an evening ocean
I see red and your burning eyes.

And though darkness as fell between us
the night burns in my palms.

As it once did in my shadow eyes
that search the evening tide.

I fell into that moment like morning falls into
afternoon, embracing what is unknown.

A powdery moon upon a blue sky
longing for what is untaught.

Your love, or was it only mine
suspended between two stars.

As the light dims across an evening ocean
I reach out but you are no-longer there.

And now I walk waste high into the swell
knowing that my solitude lays heavy in the sand.

The seabirds peck at the stars, and I stand in
darkness until a part of the oceans crust.

I can't believe I'm the first one to comment on this. Its so beautiful and sad. Its so intimate that I almost feel like I'm intruding by commenting and maybe other felt that too. Your emtions feel so strong and powerful in this one, maybe more so than some of the other poems. I'm a believer in that some people come into your life and stay there and others only stay for a short while. I think the ones who are there temporarily are there for you to learn something from each other, and sometimes they are so exceedingly beautiful and worthy that they stay with you long after they are gone. I think this was a great poem Matt!

Oh, thank u Sisi for reading. u r my 1 fan. i was beginning to think this poem was awful because no-one commented, but u have saved my poem. I totally agree with what u say about people coming into our lives, i think we can learn from everything and everybody. Also anyone who comes into my life stays with me, if they gave me anything of themselves then its always a part of my thoughts/memory. Thank u thank u thank u sooooooooo much for saving my poem!!!!!!!!!!!

And now I walk waste high into the swell
knowing that my solitude lays heavy in the sand.

Hiya MATT, there is nothing to ever worry about this poem buddy...i could relate to this since lately my husband is so engrossed in his work that i feel i am living with a stranger...i am sure one day he will realise this loneliness of mine because he will also need company because career and profession never never give one satisfaction...right?
we need to have the fulfilled soul which would come by sharing our thoughts and insecurities...

i am sorry i deviated from the theme but this is what came in my mind while reading this poem...

this is certainly not aweful....

i am glad Sisi told me about your writings or else i would have lost you in the group of writes and would have never made a conscious effort to come and read...now that i did...i feel like going back to SISI and hug her tight...for introducing me to your writings,.....i loved them and my comments definitely show my feelings....hee hee....i am all 'ga ga' over all ur writings...each close to heart and soul...

wow again, you make the poet so happy with your beautiful and encouraging words. Again this is a poem about love loss and distance. I like this poem but thought others wouldn't. Ah, she is beautiful and deserves our hugs!!
