The River at Argenteuil

Poem By: matthew smith
Poetry

Well i just wanted to post this before i go on holiday. There are times in life when we just need to stand back from all that's going on around us, and just feel life without thought, and hopefully reconnect with who we are. These are the thoughts i had when looking at a painting by Monet View table of contents...

Eighteen seventy four
Slip off your coat! Come bathe
Within these waters
Of sunlight lashed
And boats so merry and still.
Follow your eyes along the ripples
Feel the calm, the many textured shades
Of Argenteuil.
This moment captures all that’s present
Mirrored in movements of light
Watch them dance
Trees of childhood dreaming!
Hear the song
Of lovers laughter
Or an aged yawn
Be the child in a hat
Feel the wind upon your cheek
Be a boat and its reflection
Laying back upon the bank
Take off your coat
Take off your clothes
Slip off the world
And be.

Matthew! So good to read a poem from you - it has been a long time. As usual, your poem transported me to another realm. I think I am going to take print outs of all your poems and read them after a stressful day.

I love Impressionist paintings, especially by Monet. But I also love the Pre-Raphaelites. Must be the right brain / left brain thing.

Let's hope you return from your Greek holiday with some more gems for us. Have a great time.

ha, so do i

Mirrored in movements of light
Watch them dance
Trees of childhood dreaming

Be the child in a hat
Feel the wind upon your cheek
Be a boat and its reflection....

And i see myself surrounded by lovely cheerful memories of my childhood
